We all know the importance of eating well, exercising and getting a good nights sleep. We are conditioned to believe that if we pack as much into our day then we will be successful and happy. Filling your day with meaningless activities works as a temporary distraction to how we are truly feeling. A full life should not be mistaken for a fulfilling life.
There comes a point when we need to slow down, think and look around. A point where we need to assess if the people we surround ourselves with want the best for us, if the job we have is bringing us joy and if we are connecting with our environment. A point where we need to start to live life for ourselves and not the people around us.
We are all capable of feeling and looking good; physically. It is only when we start to peel back the layers of our mental wellbeing, that we realise. “Sh*t I’m really drained.”
If you have ever felt yourself feeling exhausted after spending time with a friend or dreaded going into work at the job you always thought you wanted, then your energy might be depleted.
Below are 3 simple things you can do to protect your energy:
1. Allow yourself to say no:
With the easing of lockdown in the UK, it is important to remember; there is no rush. You don’t have to rush out to see anybody, get a booking in at that bar everyone goes to or even get back to the gym. If you need time to adjust then you are in charge of your own life and you can say no. Push that FOMO to the side and take a day for yourself.
2. Distance yourself from negative vibes:
There is no friendship rule book and the beauty of friends, unlike family, is that you get to pick them. If you find yourself exhausted after spending time with one particular person then the chances are, you’re sucking up their energy like a sponge and ringing out your own. Remove yourself from situation-ships that bring negative vibes.
3. Let go of things you can’t control:
Letting go is hard. If you’ve ever tried to let go of a pair of jeans that you haven’t worn in 5 years but couldn’t bring yourself to do it, you might understand the fear of the unknown and the ‘what if’. Letting go allows you to grow as a person and move forward instead of standing still.
This isn’t to say you should cut off everybody and live a life of seclusion. It is simply saying that you have the power to choose the energy you surround yourself with. This blog is merely a reminder. A reminder that you should be your first priority.
