Sleep is THE MOST important element in our overall wellbeing – for mind, body, and spirit.
Research suggests sleep and immunity are directly related, which is why sleep-care as self-care is vital. So this month’s rituals will help you to soothe your night time jitters, to help you soften from the worries of the day, and allow you to easily surrender into a sweet and dreamy sleep.
We have new sleep rituals inside the Library this month including: Yin for Sleep, a before bed sleep ritual, Yin for deep rest + sleep and some new sleep affirmations.
No caffeine after 9am (it takes 12 hours for caffeine to process in your body, so if you’re going to wind down around 9pm- that is your cut off).
Try to go to bed at the same time each night. Your body will appreciate the routine and you will be better at getting a longer sleep if it is more regular.
I always sleep better if I have moved my body during the day. Whether it’s a walk or yoga or pilates from the library, moving your body helps you to move energy through your body so you don’t hit the pillow with an over active mind. If you’re having troubles falling to sleep, I would avoid intensive exercise after 6pm to give your body enough time to slow down.
Having a sleep routine tells your body “hey we are getting ready to sleep.” Mine includes a shower, skin routine, cleaning my teeth, face massage, and some breathing exercises. Every night when my I start my routine, my body starts to power down.
Your last meal should be at least 2-3 hours before you go to bed. Our bodies are actively processing your food and using the energy. If you want to go to bed at 10pm, then 7pm is the latest you should be eating. Smaller dinners, and larger lunches also help your body to go to sleep earlier.
Meditating before bed allows our body + mind to catch up with all the activity of the day. So that when we actually hit the pillow, our brain doesn’t need to process that conversation with your boss or that thing that happened on the way home from work. The sleep section inside the library is the most listened to every month!
